I am not an American! No sir! As a matter of fact I'm an Indian student of film and journalism. (for the last time NOT native American you morons). As much as I hate American political policies and the whole arrogance routine (which was unique to the British a century ago) I cannot help but acknowledge the fact that, well..... American TV shows are FANTASTIC!

From 'Twilight Zone' to 'I Love Lucy' to 'Friends' to How I Met Your Mother, Dexter Two and a Half Men, Kyle XY, House (BTW I know Hugh Laurie is British and an amazing actor) Supernatural and yes EVEN Glee! I have seen more American TV than expected out of someone indigenous to Asia.

American TV has this quality of remaining timeless. By contrast I've seen British shows like Coupling, Monty Python, Fry and Laurie, Rumpole, Agatha Christie's Poirot, Dr. Who, Eastenders and so many new ones. But it get difficult to digest them. The British claim that they are more intelligent than 'Americans' and have a different sense of humour etc. so why do people from previous Commonwelath nations find American TV far more interesting than the British TV shows?

Britain has left a far deeper cultural influence on Asian countries? So why is it that a non-American finds British TV shows boring. Is it because the British television ACTUALLY is boring and the British don't want to get over that fact? I don't even speak or understand Korean but I like Korean TV shows more than British TV. And I am not the only one here! lmost everyone of my friends and acquaintances is big on American TV shows! But when it comes to British shows people couldn't care less! I belong to a rare breed of people who actually watches British TV shows!

American TV is more broad and obvious, the humor is easy to understand because its mostly just slapstick or sex humor. British humor and programming is more cerebral and requires thought, lots of people dont like that. America is much less educated than Britain so they have to dumb down their programming quite a bit, that helps lots of people to understand it.

I feel truly sad for you because you find that kyle XY to be a good show. The few americans who (like me) have watched it, do so with the knowledge that it is crap. The acting was horrible, and the plot was lame.

This may seem off topic, but out of everything you wrote, to an american who loves british television, this is what stood out the most.

Maybe a part of why you and your friends prefer american TV shows is because people tend to talk more slowly, and you are in the process of learning english. I don't mean to sound judgmental, but as a student of spanish, this would definitely matter to me.

either way, I have no real response to this other than to disagree with you entirely. The only american shows you have listed that I like are twilight zone, and I love lucy. Also, hugh laurie is way funnier in blackadder than in house, that is simply a fact.

But seriously, Kyle XY? explain that to me.

If you want a good american comedy, watch Seinfeld

(woops, I once again forgot that Kyle XY isn't supposed to be a comedy)

I watch way more BBC tv than I do American made. There are most effective such a lot of rubbish truth suggests you'll be able to take earlier than feeling the have to climb a tower with a top powered rifle and begin picking out off TV manufacturers.

I believe that American TV is a bit less deep than BritishTV, so it's easier to understand, so more enjoyable. I don't fing British TV boring in the slightest, though, so perhaps it's a matter of preference. A lot of British TV is sci-fi, so that may have something to do with it.
